NO TIME OUT
Time is as relentless
as a summer squall
beating down on
the tin roof of his
pre-civil war house.
It waits for no man,
no matter how much
he pleads for the rain
to stop and sun to shine.
He pleads with his clock
that no longer ticks,
to speak with time
like a good old friend,
to take time out now
before it’s too late.
If not now, then when?
